Presentation

 

It is with great pleasure we announce the realization of V Encontro Internacional de Ecomuseus e Museus Comunitários - V EIEMC, via Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora – UFJF / Pró-Reitoria de Extensão – Proex / Laboratório de Patrimônios Culturais - LAPA, along with Associação Brasileira de Ecomuseus and Museus Comunitários – ABREMC, in partnership with several institutions from Brazil and from abroad, as the International Council on Monuments and Sites – ICOMOS; Ministério da Cultura – MinC / Instituto Brasileiro de Museus – IBRAM and Secretaria do Estado de Cultura de Minas Gerais / Superintendência Estadual de Museus e Artes Visuais - SUMAV; besides four regional ecomuseums (Cipó; Kizomba Namata; Carste e Serra de Ouro Preto) which collaborate with the organization of that large event.

 

The meeting will be held in Juiz de Fora – Minas Gerais - Brazil, from 14th until 17th of October 2015, at Instituto de Ciências Humanas (ICH) da Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora. A diverse schedule and of hybrid nature – academic and community – is being prepared with focus on promoting exchanges between research and practical experience, scientific knowledges and popular lore.

 

With that purpose traditional activities in university events (conferences, round tables, communications, posters…) acquire special names and dynamics in V EIEMC (prosas, balaios, conversês, estandartes...) because it express the regional identity of Minas Gerais and the hosts' intention in interact with the community in dialogue with students, researchers, teachers, managers and other professionals who dedicate themselves to culture and to memory especially through museum projects driven by community based initiatives.

 

The director of the Museum Processes Department of the Brazilian Institute of Museums (DPMUS / Ibram), Manuelina Duarte; anthropologist José Jorge de Carvalho (UNB - Brazil); the coordinator and founder of Museu da Maré (RJ), Claudia Rose Ribeiro da Silva; the museologist Mário Chagas (UniRio) and the internationals Teresa Morales Lersh (UMCO / INAH - Mexico) and Alberto Garlandini (ICOM - Italy) are already confirmed to speak at the V EIEMC.

 

The event will also offer short courses and workshops as well as room for artistic presentations, thematic books release, videos exhibition, children's activities, fairs and experiences. During the V EIEMC also will happen the Encontro Regional dos Pontos de Memória da Zona da Mata Mineira, promoted by Programa do Ministério da Cultura / Instituto Brasileiro de Museus – IBRAM. The complete program will be announced soon.

The main subject that will guide the meeting activities is "Museological community initiatives: building paths to wellbeing". Around it, another three thematic axes will direct and cause reflexions and proposals which will be registered in Recommendation Letter of V EIEMC, to be published and sent to the responsible international organizations.

 

Because of its coverage, it is expected to count with participants from several brazilian states and also from several countries where the ecomuseums, territorial museums, route museum, living museums, peripheral museums and other processes of participatory museology open experiences which deserve to be shared, analysed, revised or multiplied given its potential for local development and for sustainability of cultural heritage in its multiple meanings (affective, historical, artistic, economic).
